Desert Jewels Nursery
Medium Shrubs
Heading 6

Gray Rabbitbrush, Rubber Rabbitbrush
Chrysothamnus nauseosus, Ericameria nauseosa
This is the plant you see flowering in the dry shrub-steppe in August, September, and into October. Butterflies and bees love it. Rabbitbrush provides late season nectar and pollen. A wonderful native. Plant where it has room to seed itself and spread. It thrives in a wide range of coarse, alkaline soils that are common to desert environments. Pruning the shrub back to several inches in early spring, before new growth begins, may help improve the shrub's ornamental value. Zone 4/5/6.
